Quick answer: A BYD roof box is for sale now, starting at CAD $599.99 (regularly $699.99) enclosed rooftop storage for luggage, camping gear, and travel equipment. It requires a compatible roof-rack or crossbar system already installed; it doesn’t attach directly to a bare BYD roof. BYD Model and Roof Rack are both required selections at checkout.
Add extra storage space to your BYD with a roof cargo box designed for compatible roof-rack systems. A roof box provides enclosed, weatherproof storage for luggage, camping equipment, sports gear, and other travel essentials while helping keep the passenger cabin clear. Check your BYD model, roof rack, crossbar spacing, roof load limit, and cargo box specifications before ordering.

You Need a Roof Rack First
This is the single most important thing to know before ordering: a roof box doesn’t mount directly to a bare BYD roof. It clamps onto a compatible roof-rack or crossbar system, which has to be installed first. If you don’t already have BYD roof bars or crossbars fitted to your vehicle, that’s the first purchase, not this one. At checkout, BYD Model and Roof Rack/Crossbar system are both required selections a roof box ordered without a compatible rack underneath it simply won’t have anything to attach to.
What a Roof Box Is Actually Good For
Enclosed, lockable storage that keeps luggage and gear dry, secure, and out of the passenger cabin the obvious use case is a road trip or ski/camping trip where you need more space than the trunk offers without cramming the back seat full. Most roof boxes use hard-shell construction with a locking mechanism, which also adds a layer of security an open roof rack or basket doesn’t offer.
The Range Trade-Off: Bigger Than a Bare Roof Rack
We covered this on our roof rack page, but it’s worth repeating here because a mounted box makes the aerodynamic penalty noticeably worse than bare crossbars alone. Consumer Reports testing found that while an empty roof rack cost a sedan about 11% in highway fuel economy, adding a cargo box on top pushed that to 19% and a crossover saw its penalty roughly double too, from 2% to 13%. For an EV specifically, that translates directly to range loss, and it’s worse at highway speeds than around town. The practical takeaway: a roof box is genuinely useful for the trip you’re using it for, but it’s not something to leave mounted permanently if you’re also trying to maximize everyday range.
BYD Roof Box Canada: What to Check Before You Buy
Confirm your exact BYD model, your installed roof rack system (crossbar spacing matters for mounting), your vehicle’s roof load limit, and the box’s own dimensions against what you’re actually planning to carry. Current roof cargo boxes vary widely by brand, size, and construction expect anywhere from a few hundred dollars for basic models up to $1,000+ CAD for premium, aerodynamically shaped systems. This isn’t an official BYD-branded product unless specifically confirmed as one; we describe it as a roof cargo box compatible with selected BYD vehicles once fitted with the correct rack.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a BYD roof box attach directly to the roof?
No. It mounts to a compatible roof-rack or crossbar system, which must be installed first. A roof rack purchase typically comes before a roof box purchase.
Will any roof box fit my BYD?
Fitment depends on your specific BYD model and the roof rack/crossbar system installed. BYD Model and Roof Rack are both required selections this isn’t a universal fit.
How much range does a roof box cost an EV?
More than a bare roof rack alone. Testing on gas vehicles found cargo boxes roughly doubled the fuel economy penalty compared to empty crossbars expect a similar or larger effect on EV range, especially at highway speeds.
Is this an official BYD roof box?
Not necessarily described here as a roof cargo box compatible with selected BYD vehicles once fitted with the correct rack, not as an official BYD-branded product unless confirmed otherwise.
